Meeting Notes September 24, 2014

The meeting was called to order by President Ken at 12:15pm. President elect Brandy introduced the visitors this week. They were as follows;

Announcements

Peter Redwood announced the drop off/pick up location for the Rotary Auction will be behind the Muskoka Coffee Brewery.

President Ken made all Rotarian's that brought a guest without calling in to spin the wheel.  Darren Wiseman and Bob Gibson got to donate to Foundation Funding.

Jennifer Jerrett announced a request for a hard copy address list and Bob Gibson offered to generate it.

Debbie Liddle announced that our Club won 2 awards for membership at Val D'or.

Bob Gibson is in charge of Criminal Records Checks which will have to be completed every five years. You will need two photo ID and Health Cards are not accepted. Please contact Bob for more details.

 

Huntsville Hospice is selling Raffle Tickets for a Honda car. Make sure to buy your tickets to support Huntsville Hospice!

 

President Ken is looking for a Rotarian to be in charge of this years float. All those interested please contact President Ken. Without a volunteer there will be no float this year.

Gord was late for our meeting this week.  He was taking a Polio Plus Webinar with over a million other Rotarians online.  He was so amazed at all the different countries that this webinar was being viewed.

Doug Fairhall gave us a taste of what he experienced at the conference in Val d'Or. Overall it was a great show and Debbie Liddle had the Hospitality Suite.

On Thursday September 18th there was a Fun Curling Bonspiel, and PDG reunion dinner.

Friday September 19th was a Golden Opportunities theme day. There were Foundation awards and guest speaker Eric Tremblay from Canadian Malartic Mining. For the afternoon there were scheduled local tours and Cocktail party and dinner.

Saturday September 20th was Rotary International theme day. Highlights of the day were Edith Cloutier presentation of Aboriginal People and the Canadian Society. There was a Youth Exchange Presentation, Interact Presentation, Rotaract Presentation, Marlaine Alix (making a difference) presentation, Club presentation (working to help Haiti's Recovery), as well as, next years conference presentation. After all presentation there was Cocktails, Governor's Gala Dinner and dancing. The dancing was really enjoyed by Debbie and her guests.

On Sunday Sept 21st there was a memorial service led by Janet McLeod, announcements and closing remarks. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience for all who attended.

Ross Kirwin received a Paul Harris award this week!

George Young Introduces Our Guest Speaker Denise Corry

Our guest speaker was Denise Corry, Acting CAO/Clerk Returning Officer for this 2014 Municipal Election. Due to the controversy of the last municipal election of the internet vote this election will a mail in ballot. Denise Corry went into detail of how to vote by mail.

In order to ensure you are eligible to vote, every eligible elector must confirm that they are on the Voters List. Please visit the Town of Huntsville website at www.huntsville.ca or by calling 705-789-1751.

Each eligible voter will receive a Vote By Mail Package. Here are the six steps on how to vote;

  1. Read instructions carefully before you begin

  2. Sign and detach the Voter Declaration Form. Place yellow Election Return Envelope with the return address visible. (do not seal)

  3. Using a black pen or marker, complete the ballot by filling in the oval next to your choices.

  4. Insert the completed ballot only into the White Ballot Secrecy Envelope.

  5. Insert the sealed white Ballot Secrecy Envelope into the yellow Election Return Envelope. (Form should be in the yellow envelope). Seal the yellow envelope and return envelope.

  6. Mail the yellow Election Return Envelope by October 17th, 2014 or drop off at the Municipal Office anytime up until 8pm on Voting Day October 27th 2014.

Happy Bucks (everyone's favourite part of the meeting!)

Will Gibson was happy to be a bachelor for the next few weeks as Carol was leaving for Europe Wednesday evening. She was meeting up with Rob and Beth Saunders for the wedding of one of our former Exchange Students

Bill Sibeon won the Foundation funding Lotto and manged to secure a $ 400 Jackpot by pulling the Joker.
