Maria and Suzie with the Rotary Exchange Poster World Community Service Committee A request was received in early March from Shelly and Michael Duben of the Rotary Club of Bracebridge looking for the support of a partner club for a District International Grant application for $50,000. The deadline for application was the end of March. The applicants proposed to build and or renovate school facilities in an impoverished rural area of Zambia. Their acronym for their project is R.E.L.A.Y. (Rotarians Enhancing Learning of African Youth). The WCS Committee and others consulted viewed R.E.L.A.Y. as a good way for us to participate in a larger scale project operated by persons experienced at working in this part of the world and it would provide a chance for some hands-on participation with minimal Financial obligation. We agreed to be a partner club on their District International Grant Application. The R.E.L.A.Y. project has been selected for the Grant by District 7010. The Rotary Club of Huntsville will be one of six partner clubs supporting The Rotary Club of Bracebridge in the R.E.L.A.Y. project. Each Partner Club will be expected to contribute $500 per year limited to 5 years. We are looking forward to our involvement in the project. Community Service Huge thank you goes out to Peter Redwood for his research and dedication. Peter developed a spread sheet which breaks down the approximate volunteer hours and approximate funds raised per event. He has also developed the schedule for the Party in a Box for this coming summer and fall. Please note that there could be further bookings added as we go. Evening Speaker - Ron StricklandRon's presentation was a cross between a mini classification and a history lesson. What a wonderful way to learn not only about his journey with Rotary but also about the Rotary Club of Huntsville's journey. Unfortunately Ron's presentation was so amazing that it wont actually fit on the Echo. Please have patience while we break it down into two presentations in order to get it up on the site for viewing.
