Community Volunteer Recognition AwardHelen mentioned that we are approaching that time of year again, and looking for nominations for an individual from our community who deserves recognition for their service in our town. This would be an individual who goes above and beyond, exuding Rotary's motto: "Service Above Self". Note, these are people in our community...NOT fellow Rotarians. The recipient will be presented with a Paul Harris Award, President's night June 28, 2017. Nominations have been coming in, the response has been good to date. If you know of someone please contact Helen. Citation for Meritorious Service AwardFellow Rotarian and Past District Governor Ron Strickland and District Governor Margaret Walton The Citation for Meritorious Service Award honours members who have been actively involved in service activities related to The Rotary Foundation, such as serving on a Foundation committee, participating in a grant-funded project, or supporting a Rotary Peace Fellow. Our very own Ron Strickland was presented with this award by District Governor Margaret Walton at the Rotary Weekend in North Bay. HUGE congratulations goes out to Ron, we are proud of his commitment to Rotary and our club. Criteria The Citation of Meritorious Service recognizes individual Rotarians who have demonstrated outstanding active service to The Rotary Foundation for more than one year. Examples of eligible service include, but are not limited to: - Participation in Foundation grants or programs
- Service on Foundation committees at the club, district or international level
- support of Ambassadorial Scholars, Rotary Peace Fellows, Group Study Exchange teams, or vocational training teams
Financial contributions to the Foundation, however notable, are not relevant considerations for this award. Eligibility An individual may receive this award only once. Any active Rotarian in good standing may be nominated, with the exception of current and incoming district governors, current and incoming RI directors, and current Foundation trustees. Selection process Nominations must be endorsed by the current district governor. Each district may have only one recipient per year. Rotary WeekendDrew Markham Rotary Weekend was a blast. President Elect Kim and our 2018/2019 President Elect Drew had an amazing informative time at Rotary Weekend. They learned about RI, by-laws, attendance, Rotary Foundation, Club Runner and much, much more. The Rotary Weekend is a fabulous way to meet other Rotarians, learn about Rotary both internationally and at a district level. It gives new Rotarians the information needed to make valuable decisions when selecting committees etc. Our Rebound Returns!Laurel Schmanda Laurel Schmanda & Maria If you didn't attend this meeting you missed am amazing young lady speak. Her time in Chili was a "life changing" experience, one of which she will never forget. When asked for her video and notes her passion spoke volumes through her response: Hi there Pam and Jennifer, It was so amazing to come speak at the meeting today, I can't express how lovely it felt to be able to share my story again and thank all of you for your continued support. I've had a few people from the meeting ask me for my video and speaking notes, if you don't mind me asking, what were you planning on doing with them? I love being able to share my story, but I've put such a deep piece of myself into it that I really feel that I would prefer being the voice that presents them. I am more than happy to present at any future conferences or meetings, or if you would like to video me speaking, but I just prefer that it would be my voice telling my story. Tim was captivating, educating and funny. Tim's career began at Imperial Oil in Toronto and made his first move of many for the company to Edmonton where he quickly learned what a block heater was for! In Edmonton Tim could often be found in the mountains enjoying the view. From Edmonton Tim and his family traveled to Houston Texas and was transferred to the US Imperial Oil, Exxon. Texas was a huge culture shock! From there the family ventured to Australia where Tim announced to his team that he had been "rooting around in the filing room". LOL In Aussie language that meant having sex in the file room!! The next move for the family was huge. Not only a culture shock but also career shock. The Lutton family landed in Qatar, Saudi Arabia. The richest country in the world on a per capita basis. Summer days were 45c, above 50c work stopped. There weren't any snow days but rather bomb days off school. Why did the Lutton's move to Muskoka? Because it was home. They wanted to make sure their kids knew what Canada was. Their roots. Muskoka was their go to place when traveling and eventually bought a cottage. Now Dana and Tim call Huntsville home.
