Promoted the “2014 World Polio Day live Broadcast” from Rotary Headquarters in Evanston Illinois that was being held on Friday October 24th at 7:30 pm over our computers at ww

w.endpolio.org . Post scrip if you would still like to watch the program, go to that same address, as it is still available.

He also promoted Rotarians to buy the well known “End Polio Now” stickers that were made available to place on their vehicles and office windows to promote Rotary’s push to end this terrible disease. Stickers were $2 per or 3 for $5.00. If you missed getting a sticker or 2 , Gord has a supply at the luncheon meetings.

November is Foundation month – stay tuned for more information on the November 5th Rotary meeting at 6:30 pm.

Noted that we enjoyed a talk from Keith and Marta from Kearney from their volunteer work in Nicaragua. We supported them again at $2,000.00 as they are able to stretch those dollars and get so much done for the poor villagers in that country.

He spoke about a global grant that we need other Rotary Clubs to support us to equip a computer lab in Guatemala.

He noted that the Polio Plus Campaign this year for financial support by Rotarians, will be supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation - for every dollar Rotarians donate to Polio Plus, the Gates Foundation will double the amount up to $35,000,000 per year till 2018. So here’s an opportunity to get your first to your Paul Harris Pin or add another jewel to your existing pin. All donations will receive a tax receipt.

Rob changed hats and spoke briefly on our Bingo Fund raiser. We lost one of the Mac’s Stores as it closed and sales are down across town. Will have to re-think how to sell more cards as the earnings from Bingo allow our club to do many things, mainly with our youth here is Huntsville. The last support was to the $3,000 to the request from the speakers of the YWCA programs in our high and elementary schools – helps students who are on the edge of not staying in school and being successful. Another support that we have done last year and this year is to give the Table Food Bank $500 per month or $6,000.00 per year to help them. Let’s get our sales hats on and figure out how to sell more bingo cards so we can keep our work going here in Huntsville from the Bingo fund raiser proceeds!!

Human Development Committee: Debbie Liddle the chair reported that $3,000 has been spent helping folks on the area with over whelming hydro bills; denture replacement to mention a couple items.

Debbie Liddle –Club treasurer reviewed the service and operating accounts. She is keeping a close eye on expenses so we can keep within the budget. She has broken out the expenses at the Holiday Inn to reflect the cost of our meals, so we can keep track of what our meetings actually cost; the $15.00 per person does not cover all the expenses especially in the winter when many members are not here.

At their recent meeting they are planning with the morning Rotary Club an event on February 16th to promote Rotary into the community...a Rotary Fun Family Day and using the slogan for the year of Light up Rotary.

Brandy also noted that the 2nd annual “Rotary Run Around Dinner” bus is sold out for the dinner trip on November 19th. It all starts and ends at Eastside Mario’s.

The DockFest was another successful run with the profits being distributed to The Top Hat Foundation and others.

He noted that the Party In the Box fell short of expected income so we are working on a revised plan to promote its package for the upcoming summer.

The Girl’s Weekend is coming November 7th and 8th. Our club will be running the bars both evenings at the Summit Center, SO we need 40 smart servers........if you as a club member, do not have the smart serve card yet, you can do it on-line....please do it as we need you service; this weekend will be a big fund raiser for your club so we can continue to do great things here in our town and around the world.

Peter noted that our focus is now on the Christmas Auction slated for November 30th. He’d like to get all the canvassing for donations in by month. The depot will be open Wednesday and Fridays from 2 to 5 pm at the store called “Sustain” which is beside the Muskoka Roastery at 8 Crescent Road; there are a lot of things to get completed to get ready for the actual auction day on November 30th. You can go to the website to have a look at the new auction program platform: www.huntsvillerotaryauction.com/QuickBid/register.asp

She said she likes coming to our club because of us, we really have a good time and make a difference in our town and around the world.

Happy Bucks: Mary Rashleigh was happy to have another birthday: Gord too!! Vern Foell celebrated his birthday too – that reminds me President Ken....I don’t remember a birthday cake for the month of October birthdays??? Len Ross was happy that Debbie Little is still doing a wonderful job as our treasurer - thanks Debbie.
