President Ron opened the meeting with a toast to Queen, Canada and Rotary.
Rotary Moment:  Cam White is unwell; it is an ongoing health issue, and he is under a doctor’s care.  It will probably be several weeks before he can take back responsibility for his committees.

For the Rotaract Tree Initiative, arrangements have been made for the pickup at Independent Grocers, and hopefully Adrian would take this on.
Jennifer Jerrett will recruit from the Satellite group.

The Rotary Litter Pick-Up day has been scheduled for the week of April 19-25

Celebrity Chef Culinary Experience   Rob shared his screen – 316 dinners, 68 just the entertainment portion, total sponsorship was 11,000.00.  The gross income was $ 46,000, total expenses were $ 16,000, so we netted about $ 30,000.  The club will keep 15% so we have a donation to Hospice of $ 27,000.00.

Ross recommended that we create a list of “Friends of Rotary”, businesses in town who support the club so the members could patronize these businesses.  Mary agreed with this suggestion and stated that all the swag bag donors have been thanked. George also approved of Ross’ suggestion.  Paul gave a shout-out to the donations from Tony King and Georgian Bay Smash.

Hugh said that he took advantage of the deal at Family Place Restaurant, that was sponsored by the Satellite Club and it was excellent.  Mary said they have used this promotion for West Side Fish & Chips.

Tim noted that Hospice must raise about $ 55,000 a month, so our donation will provide their expenses for two weeks.

Train Station Roof: Ron reported that the roof came through the winter well, so a decision has been taken to postpone any repairs for this year.

Muskoka Seniors Friendly Card-Writing Program – Mary indicated that they could always use more volunteers.

Muskoka Rotaract Club Plant-A -Tree project – the advertising is being done on social media.

Rotary Weekend April 10-11: District Governor Elect and RI President Elect will be attending, this is an opportunity to upgrade your Rotary knowledge. Just register and then select what you want to do, all from your own home and no fees!

Next Meeting April 7 at 6 pm:  Robert Hurst will be interviewing Lou Naumovski who is regarded as one of Canada’s foremost experts on Russia.  This will be a good meeting to invite friends or potential Rotarians.

In-Person Meetings: The Legion can now handle up to 45 people upstairs.  This will be considered after the end of April and depending on members being vaccinated.  Or perhaps meeting at an outdoors setting, such as Avery Beach or the fairgrounds

Ron Question: What community in Ontario has a giant lumberjack on the highway just outside of it?  Doug got the answer right – Iroquois Falls.

Rotary Foundation – Jennifer Simpson:  On May 12, our District is hosting a virtual “Red Carpet Event” for the Rotary Foundation.  Cost is $ 110.00 per link, of which $ 100.00 goes directly to the Foundation.  See Brandy’s email for all information.

Visit to Rotary Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois: Jennifer Simpson:  (shared screen)
John Hewko, General Secretary of the Rotary Foundation was excited to offer a virtual tour since the premises had been closed to the public due to Covid 19. Rotary has had its headquarters at One Rotary Centre since 1987.  The 18-story building is owned by Rotary and occupies about 40% of the space.  Room 711 is a re-creation of the room where the first Rotary meeting was held. He explained about Rotary founder Paul Harris starting out in Chicago as a young lawyer in 1896. In 1905 he held a meeting with three other businessmen to be known as the first Rotary Club meeting.  In this room, there is a fiberglass statue of Paul Harris.   There are images of Harris’ vision of Rotary, many of which have been put into action.

On the 17th floor, is the Arch Klumph Society Gallery.  It was Klumph who started The Rotary Foundation. His name is used to recognize contributors who donate $ 250,000 and more to The Rotary Foundation.

The 18th floor houses the Rotary International Hall of Honor showcasing interactive exhibits of Rotary’s projects around the world.  The office of the Rotary International President is located here, where he spends about 25% of his time, and the rest of his time is spent travelling around the world as an ambassador for Rotary.  Also here is a new exhibit spot, to introduce Rotary leaders, to share stories of impact.  On the wall, it says: “Together we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe in our communities and in ourselves”.
Visitors have a chance to explore milestones and stories of impact, such as the creation of Rotaract, the Peace Centers and Rotary’s Action Plan.

President Ron:  This club has partnered with projects with the Rotary Club of Dhulikhel in Nepal.  They have sent out a utube link video to their club and their projects.  Jennifer showed the members that video:
The Rotary Club of Dhulikhel has sponsored 4 Rotary clubs, 5 Rotaract clubs, 2 Interact clubs and 10 Rotary Community Corps. It is the first Rotary club in their district to do a Global Grant.  It launched Earthquake Relief in 2015.  They have created projects costing more than US $ 9 million.  The members focus on Peace and Resolution, Education, Disease Prevention & Treatment, Mobile Health Camps, Water & Sanitation, Maternal & Child Health, Economic & Community Development, Supporting the Environment, Housing, and much more.  Our club has done two district grants with this club, and we are in the process of finalizing a global grant with them.

Questions:
Rob feels that the Nepal club is doing a great job
