Our President Drew's Quote of the Day (He asked us to guess the quotee with no success): “I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.” Marilyn Monroe An important reminder and invitation: The regular lunch meeting on February 12 has been cancelled. All members are invited to attend the Induction/Charter night of the Satellite Club- it will be on the evening of February 12th at 7:00pm at the Canvas Brewery. Light snacks will be provided and approximately 10-12 new members to Rotary will be inducted. Rotarian Lou Luvison On behalf of Membership Lou re-introduced the idea of 'business cards' for club members. We printed some a few years ago and members thought they were good to use when canvassing or approaching businesses. He is looking at a re-order and they may make some changes to the card's look. Peter VB suggested getting the Four Way Test on the card and Lou will look into that. Lou also reminded us about our co-hosting of a Chamber Business After Hours on February 27th along with Boston Pizza. They would provide the food, and our Club would take care of the refreshments. The event would start at 5:30 pm and members of the business community will be invited to participate. It will be an opportunity to nibble and network. Save the Date Rotarian Bill Sibeon proudly displays his winnings from a recent Foundation draw. Treasurer Deb reluctantly handed over the check. Fellow members who golf with Bill in the summer suggested a set of lessons or some new clubs might be in order! Past President and our President Elect Ron Strickland Ron advised he had represented us at a meeting of Service Clubs last week to have a discussion about Service in our community. As purveyor of all knowledge Rotary he reminded us that our current Rotary governance allows for clubs reporting to Districts, reporting to Zone reps and then to RI Zones are paired and the 34 zones yield 17 Directors that makeup the RI Board. Rotary deals with change like all other organizations, and it's good to remember "Change is not someone else's problem ... it's all of our opportunity" These days we need to find members where they are in life - we can no longer expect them to come to us. With the inauguration of new members through the Satellite framework we will be fine tuning the relationship and processes going forward There is no template or set rules to follow. New members will be still be members of the Rotary Club of Huntsville. Communication needs to flow to all members and this will take the efforts and understanding of all involved. Are we creating a 'satellite group' with semi autonomous organizational structure and long term plans to form a new club, or are we growing Rotary by adding a new meeting option for prospective members The coming months will help shape that question, and how well we communicate and participate in shaping it to the overall benefit of Rotary will be our challenge.
