Rotary Club of Huntsville Meeting Notes , August 17, 2022 President Jennifer opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. “In the spirit of reconciliation, we wish to acknowledge the enduring relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the territories they traditionally occupied. We recognize and deeply appreciate the historic connection they have to this place – both the land and the water. We are grateful for the opportunity to meet here, and we thank all the generations of Indigenous Peoples who have taken care of this place and continue to care for it - and we want to show our respect. Hundreds of years after the first treaties were signed, they remain relevant today. May they guide our decisions and actions. We commit to learn, to educate, to honour sacred places and to take actions toward real Truth and Reconciliation”. A toast was made to the Queen, Canada, and Rotary. LEADERSHIP IN ROTARY: President Jennifer President Jennifer, through a power point presentation, took members through the club’s board of director’s structure. She noted that several positions are still vacant – secretary, director and vice president – and she outlined the responsibilities of each. The current board members, except the President, are willing to change positions if anyone wishes to stand up for any position on the board. We need members to step up into leadership roles. We also need members to bring in new members. Please refer to Jennifer’s email regarding where they wish to serve this year. Fundraising: Rob heads up Bingo, Paul spoke about the Alumnae Hockey event in October. Dockfest – no one has offered to head up this event for next year. Decisions will have to be made if it does not continue. In closing her remarks, President Jennifer noted that we want members to have long-term fulfilment through their association with Rotary. Passions and ideas will entice people to join Rotary. Please advise Jennifer of your committee choices. BUDGET AND BYLAW CHANGE: An email will go out with all details, for members to vote on both on these issues. Len queried the by-law change, allowing the membership to vote on an expenditure of $ 3,000 instead of $ 2,000 as previously, without having to go through the board of directors.
