Drew then displayed the official plaque signed by DG Bill Hagborg recognizing the Huntsville evening 'Satellite' group Drew and Tim Lutton attended Huntsville Hospice earlier in the day to present Executive Director Bev Lashbrook with a contribution from our club for $2,000. A reminder that Thursday night March 5 is Games Night at the Legion. Bring your own game or join in with others. If you are not a gamer, come and watch Brandy getting her comeuppance at the pool table!! Ross Kirwin gave an update on the Alumni Hockey game planned for next February. To date 8 Gold sponsors and 1 Platinum sponsor have been secured. Rob, Ross, Peter R and Vicki attended and presented to the Community Services Committee of the Town and were well received. They asked for financial support in the amount of $4,500 and advised they will be approaching the MAT (accommodation tax committee) for an additional $10,500 at some point. They were there to inform the committee about the game and to request the Town put opening Cann Lake for public skating in their plans for next winter. He recapped how tickets would be sold in the Fall and some of the game's features - there will be a girls and boys Tyke Timbits game at the intermission; the Huntsville Minor Hockey team that sells the most tickets will play the Leafs in the last 5 minutes of the first period; Carlton the Bear (Leaf Mascot) will be up with a couple of Leafs for a public skate on the Friday night. In addition to ticket sales there will be opportunities for additional fundraisers Drew awarded multiple Paul Harris pins to 3 proud Rotarians. Dave Van Gelder received his PHF +1; Barb White her PHF +3; and Bill Sibeon his PHF+4. Congratulations to all for their support of the Rotary Foundation! NEW MEMBER INDUCTION Henri Audet was welcomed in the Rotary family as our newest member and proceeded to set a new record for 'fastest classification talk ever'. He told us he was born in Quebec City, two months premature due a fall his mother took and weighed just under 2lbs. His early youth was spent at various boarding schools and one summer his parents sent him to Taylor Statten Camp in Algonquin Park to 'learn english'. That lead to a life long love of camping and also lead to his career choices. From being a camper then leader at Taylor Statten, eventually becoming Camp Director, Henri has worked at Tim Hortons camp in Parry Sound. In 1993 he founded Camp Kirk a camp for children with learning disabilities, autism, attention deficit and anxiety disorders. Along the way Henri and his wife Jane had two beautiful daughters and are now proud grandparents to the 16 month old 'Deli-Bean'. Henri and Jane initially moved to Huntsville in 1989 but his wife could not obtain a full time teaching job and Henri was offered work at Tim Hortons. They moved back permanently a few years ago and now can focus on giving back to this community. Music is very important to Henri and he has used it many, many times in his work with youth, friends and family. He advised the members present that when he does a talk he usually opens and closes with a song. He had asked his daughter's advise for what song best defines him and her answer was - 'Come on Dad ... This Old Guitar' which he proceeded to sing to close his talk! Another unique thing is that when singing O'Canada to open the meetings, don't stand to close to him. He is the first member I have seen who sings it in French and it can throw you off a bit! |
